Danube Delta Canoe Tour
Day 1
Driving from Bucarest airport to Tulcea (3.30 hours). This little town is the main gateway in to the Danube Delta. Dinner and accommodation in Ibis Guesthouse 4* Tulcea.
Day 2
Early in the morning we’ll begin our canoe trip in the Danube Delta. Firstly, we will be brought by a small motorboat to our departure point on Sireasa Channel. Afterwards, we will paddle along the small channels and lakes. The landscape is spectacular: reed islands, willow forests and sand dunes. Typical sights include feeding Glossy Ibis, egrets, herons, and cormorants, which can gather in impressive numbers where the water levels are low. Large flocks of White Pelicans glide serenely overhead whilst in the shallower channels Kingfishers are ubiquitous and Common Sandpipers, Green Sandpipers and Greenshanks feed along the banks. Paddling gently downstream will allow us to enjoy the sounds of wilderness. In the evening we’ll settle our camp on the banks of Sontea Channel.
Day 3
We depart after breakfast towards Lake Fortuna. On our way we’ll explore with our canoe one of the most remote places in the Danube Delta in which we’ll find: gallery forests of white willow and white poplar, small lakes with reed islands, bird colonies etc. We will spend the night near the Lake Fortuna where fresh provisions will be brought.
Day 4
After breakfast we paddle downstream once more through channels and lakes to the village of Mila 23. The life style of the delta's residents is also fascinating to see, with waterborne transport the only viable way of getting around and fishing the predominant source of income. Camping at 20 minutes paddling from the village.
Day 5
In the first part of the day we’ll explore the area of Stipoc and the old arm of the Danube downstream to the village of Crisan. Here a motorboat will wait in order to take us upstream back to Tulcea. Dinner and overnight in Tulcea.
Day 6
Early in the morning driving back to Bucharest airport.
