Fagaras & King Stone Mountains - Trekking Tour – 7 days

Day 1

Arrival at Henri Coanda airport. The group will be transferred to the Fagaras Mountains, Chalet Paltinu (2044 m alt.), where we will have dinner and spend the first night. Fagaras Mountains are a part of the Southern Carpathians, the highest mountains in Romania (around 2500 m a.s.l.). They are characterized by very distinct features: a main ridge orientated east-west, with a well defined glacial relief (glacial valleys, cirques with glacial lakes, sharp ridges, thresholds with waterfalls etc.), sharp interfluves and an original association of peaks.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will take a pretty easy rout towards East, Capra Valley and we will climb Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak (2507 m), one of the highest peaks from the Carpathians. During this day will be able to admire vast alpine meadows with specific flora (Dryas octopetala, Rhodonendron kotschy etc) and fauna (chamoix - Rupicapra rupicapra carpatica the biggest of its specie, Marmota marmota, Golden Eagle, Aquila chrysaetos ). We will go back to the chalet on a different path, a pretty steep valley. We'll have packed lunch. Dinned will be served at the chalet where we'll spend also the second night.

Day 3

After breakfast, we'll leave around 8:00 in the morning towards West and, following the ridge, we will reach the glacial lake Caltun where we stop for lunch. Depending on the weather and the fitness of the tourists we can climb Negoiu Peak (2535 m) the second highest peak in the country, a rather difficult ascension. This final ascent is very challenging but awarding with its spectacular views. This is a quite difficult day but we'll have the chance to admire a picturesque glacial landscape. In the evening, we will get back to the chalet on the same way we came. The night will be spent at the same chalet.

Day 4

Today we leave the glacial cirque Balea and Fagaras Mountains and we head for Brasov (east). Around noon we will arrive to a little town Zarnesti (at the foot of the King Stone Mountain) where we will accommodate at the Elena Guesthouse 3* and have lunch. You will have the afternoon free to relax and rest, to gain strength for the next days. After dinner we drive to watch the wild bears in Brasov.

Day 5

On the fifth day we leave Zarnesti and start trekking in King Stone Mountains. The relief is characterized by a very sharp ridge orientated north-south and steep valleys, but they are not as massive as Fagaras Mountains are. Also, the landscape is changing because of the presence of the limestone. Here is located the largest national park which protects the biggest number of large carnivores: wolves, bears and links and endemic flora. It is called "Piatra Craiului National Park". In the evening we'll reach Curmatura Chalet* where we'll spend one night. During our ascension the coach will bring to the chalet the sleeping bags and all the rest of the luggage.

Day 6

Around 8:00 in the morning we start following the rout Curmatura Chalet - Plaiu Foii Chalet. There are three ways we can take (easy, medium and difficult) depending on the weather and your preferences. The landscape is characterized by extraordinary views. The coach will drive us to Guesthouse Elena 3* where we'll spend the last night and have a festive dinner.

Day 7

The tourist will be transferred by coach to Bucharest, Henri Coanda airport, passing through our famous Prahova Valley. We have the chance to admire the massive Bucegi Mountains and the numerous ski resorts.
